Aromatherapy to help you relax.

There are times when you need to relax and remain calm.  Even if you're not normally an anxious person, there is nobody that wouldn’t benefit from some calming essential oils. Maybe you need to relax and switch off when you get home from work, or perhaps when the kids are gone to bed, you want to calm your mind and relax.

I have a range of oils that I use, recommend and work, but if you are with me for a consultation or treatment, you may choose something completely different, but it will be an oil that will resonate with you and you need.

The following oils are ones I would recommend to help you relax:

Bergamot - Bergamot is a great oil that is both soothing and relaxing.  It is recommended for use on people suffering from tension, anxiety and depression.  Contraindications is it is phototoxic for 48 hours

Clary Sage - Clary Sage is deeply relaxing, euphoric and revitalising.  Do not use if you are pregnant, are planning to drink alcohol or are driving directly after use

Frankincense - Frankincense is the most valuable essential oil for slowing and deepening the breathing, helping to allay fear, anxiety, nervous tension and stress. It is a gentle oil which is particularly useful for emotional problems. No contraindications

Jasmine – Jasmine is warming and helps to open the emotions, helping those who are habitually repressed.  It is uplifting, relaxing and will leave you in a confident, optimistic and slightly euphoric mood. Do not use in pregnancy.

Juniper – Juniper helps to drive out negative energies.  Juniper is good in meditations, especially when the mind needs a spring clean. Avoid if you have kidney problems or are pregnant.

Lavender - Lavender is a balancing oil, great to use if your emotions are unbalanced and your moods are up and down. Contraindications are pregnancy. Check with your GP before use.

Neroli - Neroli is calming and uplifting, especially for those who are easily agitated, emotionally unstable or insecure and it eases the intensity of strong emotions.  It calms and soothes nerves before major events. No known contraindications.

Rose - Rose is a gentle but powerful antidepressant. It allays anxiety and is generally nurturing. It also lessens anxiety and grief and strengthens the inner spirit. Contraindications are pregnancy.  Check with your GP before use.

Sandalwood - Sandalwood helps reduce anxiety, promotes a meditative state, and helps to relieve chronic insomnia. Sandalwood oil has no contraindications

Ylang Ylang - Ylang Ylang is important to help slow down rapid breathing and help treats anxiety, anger, shock and fear.  Heady, do not over use, can cause headaches.

How oils help you relax:

Aromatherapy has proven to be especially helpful in encouraging relaxation and relieving the body of stress and anxiety.

You can use Aromatherapy in various ways to help you relax, massage being the most popular way. Oils can be massaged into the body either by a professional therapist or even by yourself at home provided the oils are diluted in a carrier, or they can be inhaled through a room spray, roller oil or a blend for use in your oil burner or room diffuser.

The oils work by triggering the olfactory senses (sense of smell) which are linked to our brains, sending a message to release some feel good hormones, such as endorphins.

Massage Treatment for Relaxation:

If you are coming to me for a massage and you would like a blend to help you relax and calm your mind, I will go through all the oils I have and we can create a blend suited to you.  Aromatherapy Massage can generally be the basis for treatment as it is healing and relaxing.  If you then have a special liking to the blend used in the treatment, you can purchase a blend following your treatment and use it in a body cream, as a personal perfume oil or add to an oil burner or diffuser so that the effect of the treatment you have received can be prolonged.
