Do you suffer from sensitive skin? Is your skin fragile and tender? Sensitive skin is a skin condition in which skin is prone to itching and irritation experienced as a subjective sensation when using cosmetics and toiletries.

Sensitive skin is often fair, delicate, youthful in appearance and almost translucent with scarcely visible pores and can be dry and fragile. Cosmetics, soaps and other substances often produce irritation and the skin may burn very easily in the sun.  It is easily irritated, meaning it can become red, inflamed, dry and itchy.  Someone with sensitive skin may sometimes have allergic reactions to certain skin care products.

To help keep your sensitive skin soft, moisturised and to stop any irritation, you must do several things.

  • Protect it as much as possible from the elements, tough in Ireland I know with 4 seasons in one day!  Use a good sunscreen ALL YEAR ROUND.
  • Don’t use too many heavy products on your skin, you don’t want to overload it!  A good cleanser, serum if needed and moisturiser is sufficient.  Don’t exfoliate or use a toner if you find it makes your skin become dry and irritated.
  • Keep hydrated.  A must with all skin types.

 Oils for Sensitive Skin

The best essential oils to use for sensitive skin are Chamomile, Rose, Neroli and Jasmine. Again, I would only use a maximum of 3 essential oils in a product for the face. My Hydrate & Soothe Serum for Sensitive Skin contains a 1% blend (recommended for sensitive skin) of Chamomile, Neroli and Rose Essential Oils with a carrier blend that is light and ideal for Sensitive Skin. Chamomile is soothing, calming and anti-inflammatory.  Rose is a very good oil to use in skincare, especially for dry, sensitive and ageing skin. Neroli is a rejuvenating oil for the skin, stimulating the growth of healthy new cells.
