Relax and Ease Pain in Muscles

Are you an athlete or a dancer?  Are you a jogger or a runner? Do you attend a gym or take pilates or yoga classes? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, you know how important it is to take care of your muscles before and after exercising.  

One of the best ways to use Essential oils for muscles is through Massage.  Essential oils used in Massages can have an immediate effect on the muscles as the oils are being massaged into the area and the oils being used are pain relieving and anti inflammatory.

Pain relieving oils like Chamomile, Lavender, Marjoram and Rosemary will ease pain in muscles that have been over exerted.  Clary Sage and Jasmine have a relaxing effect on the muscles, while oils like Black Pepper, Juniper and again Rosemary will warm the muscles, helping to prepare them for action! Be careful though as Rosemary Oil should NOT be used if you have high blood pressure or epilepsy.

Anti Inflammatory oils like Chamomile, Lavender, Peppermint and Marjoram will help relieve the discomfort from inflammation in the muscles.

Using oils on the muscles when you are an athlete, gym goer, dancer etc will help increase muscle efficiency.

If the muscles are over exerted and go into spasm, oils like Bergamot, Black Pepper, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Cypress, Juniper, Lavender, Marjoram, Neroli, Peppermint, Rosemary and Sandalwood are all anti spasmodic and will help soothe the muscles.

If you can’t have a massage, using a blend of oils at home can help in the interim.  As some of the pain relieving and anti inflammatory oils cross over, using a blend that consists of Chamomile, Marjoram and Black Pepper or Clary Sage, Black Pepper and Lavender will help cover all areas.  Add these to a carrier oil like Olive Oil or Castor Oil which is also painkilling, then pour the amount of oil needed onto your hand, warm it between your palms and lightly massage it onto painful and inflamed areas. Relax and let the oils do their work!
