Eczema TipEczema is a condition that causes the skin to become inflamed or irritated. No matter which part of the skin is affected, eczema is almost always itchy. Sometimes the itchiness will start before a rash appears, but when it does, the rash most commonly appears on the face, back of the knees, wrists, hands, or feet. It may also affect other areas as well. Affected areas usually appear very dry or scaly.

The exact cause of eczema is not known but it can be a hereditary condition, found in families that already have sufferers of allergies or asthma. Stress is involved in almost all cases of eczema and reducing the level of stress will help in the treatment of eczema.

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy has proven to be beneficial for the management of eczema. Application of the right oils will reduce the sensation of itching and can therefore reduce scratching.

The Essential oils that work well with helping to treat eczema are Lavender, Chamomile, Bergamot, Frankincense and Geranium.

These oils have antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, calming, moisturising, and anti-inflammatory properties. As skin with eczema can be tender to touch, use only a small dilution of essential oils or ask an aromatherapist for advice.

A blend of 2 or 3 of these oils mixed in with a natural cream or some carrier oils and rubbed onto the affected areas will help ease itching and dryness.

✦ Chamomile is the most popular and the most helpful oil when treating eczema.

✦Frankincense is also a great oil for skin cell renewal and will help regenerate the skin.

✦Geranium Essential oil can kill bacteria and other skin germs, helping to heal the skin.

✦ Lavender oil is a skin healing oil. It has anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness, itchiness and help the skin to heal and recover.

✦ Bergamot helps with the stress side of things. A lot of the time, eczema can be caused by stress and bergamot can help reduce this.
