Can Aromatherapy help with digestion issues?

THE BEST ESSENTIAL OILS FOR DIGESTION 

If you suffer from digestive upset, indigestion, IBS, stomach upset, painful gas, essential oils may provide some relief.
Indigestion can be helped by a gentle massage over the stomach with a soothing blend of oils. You can also use the oils in a hot compress on the stomach. Blend the oils in a carrier and put a towel or cloth in warm water, then put the oils on the warm towel and apply to the stomach. Renew the oils and warm the towel/cloth as often as needed.
If you are suffering from IBS, a blend of Orange oil and Patchouli oil in a carrier and massaged onto the stomach is great to help regulate IBS.
Massage the stomach lightly in the direction of the colon.
Other oils that help are:
Ginger - A great oil to help reduce symptoms of common stomach upset including nausea, bloating and gas. Also known to stimulate digestion, soothe and comfort. Contraindications of Ginger Essential Oil is it can irritate sensitive skin.
Peppermint - One of the most widely used essential oils for digestion. Peppermint effectively eases common nausea, indigestion, and gas and stimulates the digestive process. The contraindications of Peppermint Oil is to check with your GP before using if you are pregnant, do not use on children under 2 years old. Avoid if epileptic or with any heart disease. It can also irritate sensitive skin.
Fennel - Massage Fennel in a carrier on your stomach or on the bottom of your feet to help ease digestive discomfort. Contraindications to Fennel Oil is to avoid during pregnancy and in epilepsy. Can cause skin irritation.
Chamomile – Chamomile is a good digestive aid. It can help reduce muscle spasms and inflammation of mucous membranes, making it a useful treatment for indigestion. Check with your GP before using if you are pregnant.
Marjoram – Marjoram is a painkiller and is antispasmodic, making it ideal to help get rid of a number of painful gas related problems such as indigestion, nausea, vomiting and stomach ache. Do not use if you are pregnant.
Orange – The aroma from Orange Oil can help alleviate nausea and its symptoms. It can ease constipation, aids digestion, and relieves fluid retention. Contraindications is it is phototoxic for 48 hours so don’t go out in sunlight or under a sunbed after use.
Patchouli - A blend of Orange oil and Patchouli oil in a carrier and massaged onto the stomach is great to help regulate IBS. Massage the stomach lightly in the direction of the colon. No known contraindications.
