CalendulaCalendula (Calendula Officinalis) is a natural oil extracted from the petals of the marigold flower.  It is antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and is a great skin healer.

Calendula can help to soothe dry and itchy skin and is highly recommended for use with conditions like eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.  With its anti-inflammatory properties, the oil can help reduce the inflammation caused by these conditions and can reduce pain and heal wounds. It is a hydrating and moisturising oil that can be used in a cream, oil or a balm regularly.

As well as the above conditions, Calendula can help if you suffer from acne and are looking for an oil that has the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can calm the skin and kill off the bacteria. It is also known to help slow down premature ageing and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, helping to bring back the natural glow to your skin.

And that's not all Calendula is known for, it can also help reduce muscle spasm AND help with menstrual cramps. It really is an all round carrier oil that can help young and old (it's a popular oil for nappy rash).

However, there are contraindications to Calendula.  It is not advisable to use the oil if you are allergic to plans in the Astraceae/Compositae family like ragweed, daisies and marigolds.  It is also not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
