Beautiful Bergamot comes from the bergamot orange plant and has a sweet, citrus scent with a warm, floral quality. It is a common ingredient in perfumes and skincare products.
Commonly used to elevate mood and alleviate stress, bergamot oil is antiseptic, antispasmodic, and analgesic (pain-relieving). Bergamot is the sunny essential oil. It is an excellent treatment for depression and anxiety. Its sunny anti-depressant qualities make it useful in treating Seasonal Affective Disorder, and it is cheering on cold, grey winter days.
Bergamot is known for being uplifting. It is one of the best oils to support the central nervous system and it is a calming oil. It helps promotes a positive outlook, soothes anxiety and eases over-thinking, encouraging confidence. Bergamot is a great support to your immune system, it can be massaged onto the skin in a body lotion or massage oil or you can diffuse it to continue to promote good health.
The healing effects of bergamot make it a helpful aromatherapy tool for relieving worry and uplifting emotions. Inhaling bergamot essential oil has an anxiety-reducing effect as the oil can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Bergamot essential oil can also improve negative emotions and fatigue and lower the body's "stress hormone".
Bergamot has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties making it effective in healing spots, acne and blemishes. It’s known to help balance oily skin too.
If you suffer with eczema, Bergamot has anti-inflammatory properties and it can help stimulate the growth of healthy cells to replace the dead skin cells that have accumulated on the surface of the skin.
As Bergamot is a citrus oil, it is photosensitive when exposed to strong sunlight and can cause your skin to burn, however, the Bergamot I use is BGT (Bergaptene Free) it could also be FCF (Furocoumarin Free) which means it reduces the photosensitive properties and is safe to use in massage blends and in perfumes and can be used in the sun.
Bergamot BGT/FCF is a safer alternative to traditional bergamot essential oil which has been identified as phototoxic. It can be used in body creams or oils, roller oils, room sprays or diffuser blends.
Bergamot mixes well with Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, other citrus oils like Lime, Rose and Geranium.
